The backflush system reverses the flow of the carrier gas through the pre-column after the last compound of interest eluted onto the main column to discharge residual and high contaminants from the system after injection. This shortens the analysis time and improves productivity. These high boiling point components are discharged from the split vent, preventing column contamination and shift in the retention time. The backflush system is suited to applications where the target components are eluted in a relatively short time, but where elution of high boiling contaminents increases the overall analysis time.
Example of Analysis of Chlorine-Based Agricultural Chemicals in Cabbage
This low dead volume component has an inerted inner surface and is in the sample flowpath. It is used in combination with a high-precision digital flow controller to achieve backflush analysis with high reproducibility. The system is designed for low cost and easy maintenance by simply replacing the insert when contamination builds up.
Specially developed software makes the setup of analysis conditions easy. GCsolution and GCMSsolution methods can be loaded for verification of backflush analysis conditions, and the resulting analysis conditions can be saved as a method file. Setting backflush timing is done simply and graphically with a loaded chromatogram file.
