High-Contrast Micro-Focus X-Ray Computed Tomography System for Light Materials

The inspeXio SMX-100CT is a micro-focus x-ray computed tomography system that allows for internal structure analyses of complex objects at a fine scale.

The inspeXio SMX-100CT can achieve high-contrast images at high resolution in light materials such as fabrics, botanicals, pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and wood samples.

In addition, the combination of intuitive operation and the high-performance computing system significantly reduces analysis time.

Simple, Intuitive, and Calibration-Free Operation

The inspeXio SMX-100CT features easy sample loading and positioning; an observation camera helps guide placement of the sample. X-ray and scanning parameters are automatically set based on material and image quality selections. Without the need for calibration, testing starts immediately.

Improved Productivity

The high-performance computing system significantly reduces analysis time by running data collection and calculation processes in parallel, resulting in shorter CT data reconstruction times, approximately 80 to 170 times faster compared with conventional systems.

More Accurate Analysis Through Better Images

Shimadzu’s original noise-reduction filtering and real-time sensitivity correction functions create sharp x-ray images for more accurate analyses.

Collision Sensor and Software Limit
A collision sensor and software limit function prevent samples from hitting the x-ray tube while positioning.

Anti-Pinch Prevention
The sliding door through which samples are loaded is heavy and generates considerable inertia when it is opened and closed. The door safety lock helps reduce the likelihood of operators accidentally pinching their fingers.

Door Interlock
Both the sliding door and the maintenance doors are equipped with interlock switches which disable X-ray generation when a door is opened.

Radiation Leakage Prevention
The shield box’s wall is composed of sandwich panels comprised of steel and lead plates which are bonded to one another and welded to a steel frame.

The inspeXio SMX-100CT features user-friendly operation, live images to assist sample positioning, fast data processing, which reduces CT calculation times, and detailed post-analysis software.

Operation and Reconstruction Software

Interactive Capture Window
  • Alter the position of points of interest and zoom in/out of live x-ray images.
  • Display contrast and brightness is automatically optimized based on a sample’s material.

X-Ray Controller and Safety Indicators
  • Control x-ray output and perform tube aging.
  • The safety status of the instrument is monitored, including door interlocks.

Live View of the Sample
  • Shows the scan area of the CT stage.
  • Field-of-view navigation setting and automatic x-ray optimization function.

Multiple Scanning Parameter Settings
  • CT: Advanced parameter setting for CT scanning. Various scan modes are incorporated.
  • DR: Regular 2D x-ray imaging parameter setting.
  • CR: Used to acquire distortion-free 2D x-ray images along the Z-axis.

CT image processing is often slow due to large data sets. The inspeXio SMX-100CT system boasts a high-performance computing system which significantly reduces analysis time by running calculations in parallel with data collection.

Multi Planar Reconstruction Software

Instant Access to Your CT Images

Shimadzu’s Multi Planar Reconstruction software reformats CT images at arbitrary planes. A CT volume dataset is built by stacking Z-axial slices. The software cuts slices through the volume in mutually orthogonal planes and allows reconstruction in non-orthogonal planes, enabling examination of samples side to side, straight up and down, and at any angles.
3D CT Scan Region Display Function

Immediately after acquiring a whole view of your sample, the 3D CT Scan Region Display function allows the user to set a new area of interest at a higher magnification based on the current field of view. The mobile CT stage is manipulated through the Multi Planar Reconstruction software. It allows the user to intuitively alter the scan area for a detailed inspection.

Image-Pro Analyzer 2D Image Analysis Software

Optional CT Data Analysis and Visualization Software

VGSTUDIO 3.0 and VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0* are software programs for the analysis and visualization of CT data. VGSTUDIO 3.0 offers basic 3D animation creation and simple geometrical measurement functions. VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0, the high-end version, has more specific analysis and add-on measurement modules, such as defect analysis, nominal-actual comparison, and fiber orientation analysis. Pre-packaged software bundles are available for the most common applications. In addition, VGSTUDIO MAX 3.0 can import IGES and STEP files for comparison of manufactured parts and CAD import modules are available to import formats other than IGES or STEP. *By Volume Graphics GmbH
