Dimensions of specimens used with grips for shouldered-rod specimens are shown in the figure below.

Introduction of specimens into the grips is straightforward and the design of these grips is such that during testing the specimen and grips exert opposite forces on each other, holding the specimen tightly in the grips.

Grips for Shouldered-Rod Specimens Test Specimen

Operation

Two grip faces are attached around each end of the shouldered-rod specimen and this assembly is placed through the open front of the grips. The grip faces are constructed so that the centerline of the specimen matches the centerline of the grips and testing machine.
