Summary
Steroid hormones are a frequent target of analysis in both basic research and clinical laboratories. LC-MS/MS has become the preferred method of analyzing steroid hormones due to small required sample volumes, ability to multiplex panels of hormones, high throughput, and its improved specificity over immunoassays. This presentation will focus on ways in which the Endocrine Technologies Core at Oregon National Primate Research Center applies LC-MS/MS analysis of steroid hormones to advancing research in HIV/AIDS, reproductive disorders, and contraception. A description of the methods and some of the challenges presented by LC-MS/MS analysis of steroid hormones will be presented. Supported by NIH P51 OD011092 and NIH S10 OD026701.
